D-Link Print Server - Setup Printer Wizard

Welcome to the Printer Setup Wizard

This wizard will install a network-attached printer onto your computer. The wizard will guide you through the following steps. Click Next to begin.

Step 1: Select a printer
Step 2: Launch a setup executable on your computer
Step 3: Insert the printer driver CD if requested
Step 4: Print a test page

NOTE: You do not need to run this wizard to use a scanner -- simply browse to the Scan page.

Unsupported Operating System

The Printer Setup Wizard supports only Windows XP/2000/98/ME operating systems. Your computer uses the operating system.

Troubleshooting Tips

Refer to the documentation that came with your print server for printer setup instructions specific to your operating system.

A Required Printing Protocol Is Disabled

The Printer Setup Wizard requires the raw TCP port printing protocol. This protocol is currently disabled on the print server.

Troubleshooting Tips

Enable raw TCP port printing from the Advanced page.
If you are not authorized to modify the print server's configuration, contact the administrator.

Step 1: Select a printer

The following printers have been detected. Select the printer you wish to install onto your computer, then click Next.

NOTE: If the printer you wish to use is attached to the Ethernet port of the print server, exit this wizard and run the installation software that came with that printer.

No Printer Detected

The setup wizard was unable to communicate with the printer.

Troubleshooting Tips

Verify that a printer is attached to one of the print server's USB ports.
Verify that the printer is turned on.
Click Refresh to try again.

Check Printer Status

The current printer status will result in the test page failing to print later in the setup process.

Troubleshooting Tips

Attempt to fix the problem with the printer, then click Refresh to update printer status.
OR, click Next to continue anyway and later choose No when asked if you'd like to print a test page.

Printer Device ID Error

The printer manufacturer and/or model could not be determined for at least one of the printers listed above, possibly due to an invalid device ID reported by the printer. The wizard cannot install the printer without this information.

Troubleshooting Tips

Unplug and reinsert the printer's USB cable.
Click Refresh to try again.

Step 2: Launch a setup executable on your computer

When the File Download dialog appears, click Run.

After clicking Next, you will be asked for permission to download an executable file. Please click Run/Open to allow the executable to run on your computer. If a second window appears prompting you to verify the publisher, please click Run again.

When the File Download dialog appears, click OK. Then launch the executable.

After clicking Next, you will be asked for permission to download an executable file. Please click 'OK' to download the Printer Setup executable. Then launch the executable.

To launch the executable, you may need to open your file-download folder using a file browser and double-click on the icon labeled Printer_Setup.exe.

Step 3: Insert the printer driver CD if requested

The Printer Setup executable will display a progress bar and notify you when setup is complete. When done, click Finish below.

If the progress bar did not appear, the setup executable did not launch and setup is not yet complete. Refer to the Troubleshooting Tips section below.

The setup executable will search for a compatible printer driver on your computer. If one cannot be found, you will be prompted to insert the driver CD that shipped with the printer.

Alternatively, you can direct the setup executable to a folder on your computer containing a printer driver you have downloaded from the printer manufacturer's web site.

Troubleshooting Tips

If the setup executable did not launch automatically after downloading to your computer, you may need to open your file-download folder using a file browser and double-click on the icon labeled Printer_Setup.exe.
